I was just stung yesterday evening weed eating…..at dark, I stuck a quart of Pennzoil 10W-40 in the hole. No activity in the area today.

Anybody ever had luck killing yellow jackets

I found a nest of the flying assholes in the wooded area at my mom's house, they stung me about 2 dozen times. I poured about a gallon of gas in the hole and that was the end of them.
I got nailed twice in the right leg a few weeks ago while clearing some brushy crap that had grown up around a very old Oak tree. I was lucky. The first two that stung me let me know there were more, and as I ran away, I saw a bunch of them coming out of the ground.
I waited a few minutes, then went back out there and doused them with Hot Shot, and sprayed the whole can into their hole. I haven't had any more problems in that particular spot.

Place a bucket of soapy water near the nest but away from where people will be and hang a fish over the bucket. The yellow jackets go after and eat the fish but drop in the bucket and die. We did this every time we went camping and never had yellow jacket problems.
I would also keep a few cans of brake cleaner nearby. That stuff knocks them down and kills them in seconds. I was recently attacked when I stepped by a next in the ground. Brake cleaner killed the 15 or so trying to sting through my jeans.
Delta Dust or permethrin.
We had a big ground nest a few weeks ago. Go out after dark and dust the entrance hole heavily. The stuff is neurotoxic to hymenoptera but won't hurt you unless you inhale a big dose IIRC.
It'll take a couple of days, if that, and they'll all die off.
The stuff comes in a rectangular plastic bottle with a nozzle tip. Cut the tip about the size of a pencil, turn the bottle sideways, shake the contents to the tip and do a test squeeze to check the wind. Then get as close as you can AFTER DARK and dust the stuffing out of the hole. I used about 1/3 - 1/2 of a bottle of Bayer Delta Dust. The best thing about it is that delta dust won't absorb water or be absorbed by water. So it stays deadly even in damp conditions.
If you go after dark, set the flashlight down away from you but shining on the hole. I don't know if it's true that they'll follow the light, but I wasn't taking chances.

Gas after dark. Don`t light it. 100% effective. Use enough, a qt will be plenty.
Saw some drones coming and going this morning. Kind of surprised me. I may have underestimated their fragility... or the drones were out late partying.
And let these bugs live, they will take care of the problem for you!
Shove a long neck beer or wine bottle half filled with gas into the entry hole and leave the bottle to block up the hole. You will see a few jackets that were out foraging flying around the bottle for a couple of days. They will leave to find a new nest.
