Anyone feeling the need to put up food more the usual?

Grabbed an extra turkey this week at $.50/lb from Publix. But I like to do that at Thanksgiving anyway.

Keep your eyes open after Christmas, the price on turkeys will nose dive.
I've seen them as low as 16 cents a pound at the beginning of January.
Surely the cheapest protein in the store.

edited to add - buy the smallest ones you can find, so you don't have to eat it all week.

We have both county water which we don't usually use and a well that we use for our main water source. We put a Bison Hand Pump on it for when we lose power.

On the news last night - shortage of small turkeys because folks aren't having big Thanksgivings.

If your store has an onsite butcher, you can get them to cut a big turkey in two. I do that all that time, and Food Save them. Plus on a big turkey the meat to bone ratio is higher.

The butcher will probably bitch about it because he has to clean the saw, but he has to do it. I've elevated the discussion to the store manager before.

I do the same thing, have them cut it in half on the band saw...
(They cook up real good as halves. I finish them up on broil to get the skin just right...)

I have a plan on what I think extra should be in my house. I did however fail to include my wife in my plan because she is not big into what she calls hoarding. We talked the other day and I was surprised when she said do we have enough "cash" on hand. This was mainly in regards to helping our kids.(she thinks it is easier to help them with money. So we have added extra money to the pantry.

Started hoarding cash a year ago. Figured with enough cash, I can get TP or ammo.
