the Finnish military leadership knew that the bayonet wasn't as effective a military weapon anymore by the m39 production, so instead of buying bayonets they bought more rifles.

war was changing and the bayonet sadly is kinda a throwback. look at the newer bayonets they issue, they are basically medium-large sized knifes with the the ability to attach to a rifle but rarely needed for that purpose
