Appliances dangit - worth fixing ?

I've had a Whirlpool washer and dryer for 25 years. Only fix needed has been a door switch on the washer. Now the washer has stopped spin drying, the motor sounds like it's running and the rest of the cycle completed fine. Looking online there's almost too much information about potential fixes !

Naturally the wife needs it fixed yesterday, and is making that need exceptionally clear........

I've checked the door switch, I'll check the belt tomorrow, one other possible culprit is a "shift actuator" ? Think I can test that with a multimeter.

If it's not one of those is it worth messing around with it any more, or just go shopping ?

25 years, probably done. Only chance of getting a new one to last 25 years is a Speed Queen.

Go shopping, I had mine for 23 years and was not surprised when it decided to quit..I just went to Lowes and purchased a new one..Dryer is the same age and I have replaced the drum belt once..If it quits again I will replace it with a new one..I consider myself lucky they lasted this long...I dread when the fridge and freezer die..I was in sticker shock with the cost of a side by side Fridge while shopping for the washer..I have paid less for brand new cars than the cost of some of the side by sides.

Ours Went out to and I used an old school wash bord for 3 days until I got a new washer. Old school washing clothes sucks haha but it work and had clean clothes until the new washer came in. Even then I will not own a fancy washer with all those touch screen do higgys😂. Simple washer all I need

Be careful when buying anything new. Do some research first because most appliances, even the big name companies, are trash. If you can fix your 25 year old washer, it will still probably outlast anything you buy new in 2024. Best of luck

I have fixed my whirlpool several times for cheap. Mine did what yours sounds like it could be doing, clothes would be soaked after a full cycle. It was the motor coupler. Dirt cheap off amazon. Not sayin' that's the problem, but just sayin'

IMO, if it’s a reasonable fix? keep it. I wish I had kept our old appliances when the wife decided she wanted new ones. Sounds like you’re checking the right parts. Mr.Fox (Fox Electric) , if he still has an appliance parts store in Cartersville , taught me a lot about appliances and how the quality has went down hill over the years.

Stay away from GE. I have a set that's 4 years old and you have to mess with the dryer door to get it to work.

The new (about a year old) high dollar GE refrigerators and dishwashers are junk too. Cost too much to be working on already. Maybe we got lemons at Lowe’s?
