AR pistol HELP

Here's mine, C3 Defense lower, with a GunSmoke Enterprises upper. It's a 4 inch buffer tube, which is really short, but I've put a couple hundred rounds thru it without a hiccup. It's 7.5 inches on the barrel. It's a flame thrower!

Nice... My next one will be on a C3 lower I've got. I'd be interested in seeing how long the buffer spring is with that 4" buffer.

Same length as a standard spring. The BCG is machined so the spring fits around it, into the upper. There is no buffer weight assembly, just a spring.

I looked at an AR pistol once but I didn't like that the bolt carrier and buffer were not the same as a standard AR. Is there any reason NOT to build one using stco AR15 BCG and buffer tube/buffer assy?

Most run a standard carbine buffer and bcg. The only thing I've modded on mine buffer wise is the spring length.

As far as using a standard buffer tube, you can do it but to remain legal it has to be modded in some way so that you can't just slide a butt stock on. Some simply wrap them in para cord or put heat shrink tubing over them. Having some sort of foam cover over them helps when shooting.

So a stock buffer tube is a legal issue unless it is "modified" to prevent a stock? Not too big a deal.

From what I have read and seen, it's ok as long as it can't readily be used with a butt stock. I would HIGHLY suggest you do your own research and verify before doing so though.

Cool. Wilco. I've been toying with the idea of an AR pistol because although, I'd prefer an SBR I do NOT want to do the paperwork. So a pistol would be a happy alternative.
