You can get sheets of it from ryerson. I think they are based out of norcross. It's really really expensive.

Oh yeah- Ryerson is a good source... forgot about them. I've ordered lots of aluminum from them in the past.
Yep I repaired some of his target stands for folks.
That is a very good point... you pretty much need to cut it with a water jet and abrasive. AR steel is quenched and tempered, so flame cutting is out unless it's ok to have some local strength loss. And it can't be drilled or saw cut easily- or really at all without major tooling cost.
Unless you have a water jet table with garnet abrasive, I'm not sure how you do it. You'd go through drill bits and saw blades like crazy trying to just cut that stuff.

Just trying to help- I came up with just under 500 pounds for a 3/8"x4'x8' sheet.
If you decide not to cut your own, JC Steel Targets http://www.jcsteeltargets.com makes outstanding AR500 targets for a good price, and the proceeds benefit a worthy cause.
Most of the targets I run in my school nowadays comes from JC Steel and they get shot on a regular basis with .223 - .300 WinMag.
