Are 80's cars cool now? What happened to the prices?

I've always loved the third generation F-bodies (1982-92 Camaro/Firebird) and I've owned several of them. It's rare to see them in good shape but I think they are awesome looking cars, especially a black IROC-Z. I've been looking around for another one and wow, WTF happened? A few years ago $5k would get you a really nice one. Now even the rough ones are more than that. A nice one is $20k+. Same thing with the Fox body Mustangs. The notchback coupes are all $10-15k even for ones that are far from perfect.

Is this just inflation or are 80's cars actually desirable now?

Hell yes ! Even the ones that need resto are expensive. Thats why they command the $$ they do when they are done .

The prices are increasing for sure, but heck man they’re 40 years old so I’d expect a high price if it’s in great shape

Man I had a cherry Chevette when I 1st got married. 1984 with 27k on it. All maintenance records. Wish i still had it. Lol! Tan with black interior and AC. Cherry I tell ya.
