Any tips for successfully hunting these PITA armadillos? Mother in laws property is getting absolutely trashed by them digging, which now includes trying to burrow near her house foundation. Ive tried funneling and trapping them last year when they first showed up, but only got one so far. Problem is bad enough now I have no choice but to actively hunt them.

So, any tips?

My wife hated those thing tearing up her yard.
She'd come up missing in the middle of the night and I'd find her on the back deck with a spotlight and rifle. I got to drag their corpses off in the morning.
I kept threatening to have one stuffed just for her.
They're not terribly bright and are actually fairly easy to sneak up on.
I caught one in a fishing net one night just for giggles and more then once I've snuck up on one and kicked it in the butt...wear boots for that one.
If they're tearing up the yard just wait and they'll come to you. Motion alarm will let you know when they're about.

A standard velocity roundnose bullet from a suppressed 22 will kill them but not cleanly --- not with a body shot. Expect them to flop around thrashing for a little while.

A shotgun with small bird shot is pretty effective at 20 feet but a 30 or 50 feet... again you get wounding, thrashing, bouncing around. Follow-up with a blast of birdshot from 10 feet to be sure on the other hand you might get back splatter from that, and these things can carry diseases like leprosy.
