Asked to leave WAL-Mart Tonight because of CC Rig Showing...

I called the Sheriff's department on Friday just to clarify this because we were talking about it at work and the officer said that in the state of GA, you DO NOT have to have a permit to open carry in plain sight, only to carry concealed.

He lied to you sir. Following this advice will get your gun rights taken from you.

I was open carrying in Walmart in Bremen a few weeks ago while on my way to the range... in fact me and my friend both were. Not a single word was said... guess it depends on where you are.

Also.. let me clarify that I don't normally open carry. I just didn't have my jacket on that I would have been wearing while at the range... so my holster and weapon was showing.

I open carry all the time......... While I have been in several exchanges of fire throughout my life, I have never been "shot first" because I was OCing. I see this argument all the time and I think it is stupid. Carry as you will, but carry responsibly. "Responsible Carry" does not mean Concealed Carry.

I have never been asked to a leave a Walmart, but I have (in my much younger days) been asked to leave a movie theater and a Waffle House. I was at the Bremen Walmart one night and the Frontend Manager asked if I had a carry permit, and one time at the East Macon Walmart a deputy asked if I had a permit. On both occasions, I just replied with a "yes" and continued to walk on. No further incident. I would like to know which Walmart it was, I would visit it.

I have been asked if I was LEO and told that I could not open carry in Wal Mart unless I was. At the time I understood that Wal Mart abided by the state law and had no issue with open carry if that was the law of the state. The OP seems to show that that is not indeed the case. IF in fact this is the case I suppose I will be looking for another place to shop, or I will conceal when I shop there.

No what's discouraging is people who Are supposed to enforce laws don't even know them.

Because of this he didn't have a permit and walked around commiting a crime by not even having a GWL.

Don't even know who your referring too. The Op claims to have a CC? But does not matter if you do not want to make sure you completely understand your legal responsibilities when you enter into the public arena carrying a firearm ....then your deserve anything and everything that can and will happen to you legally!

Im not surprised at their reaction really. With all thats going on in the media right now with firearms I guess your lucky they didnt call FOX 5 news and do a "Special Report" and show doctored footage of your "almost threatening like behavior & semi agressive resistance" and how surrounding customers had to be hospitalized with PTSD. Its gotten so friggin' ridiculous, as stated before sounds like the "plastic badge and flashlight cops" were on a power trip. I typically just leave mine hidden in the car when I go into places like Wally to avoid stupid B.S. situations just like this.

"No pics? Didn't happen!
Cop once told me, " You have an edge if the bad guy doesn't know you're armed. You may be targeted if they see you have a gun, just so they can get your gun."

Although there are some exceptions, I have a generally poor opinion of security guards. They don't normally have the powers to do anything, and are generally not very skilled, motivated or dedicated. But then, I am responsible for my own security and well being, and sometimes they inhibit my abilities.

There is a poster a few pages back that said to have called his SHerriffs dept to ask and was told he didn't need a GWL to open carry and has been OCing without a GWL because of LEOs that dont know the laws. That's what I was referring to.

And as I said and you just said, it is YOUR responsabilty to know the laws. No one else's.

This was not the case of the OP, but it popped up in this thread and needed to be and was addressed.
