Yes legal to own. Problem is, he has no proof of how he acquired it. It is not legal for them to purchase a handgun. So unless grandpappy gave it to him, how could have legally obtained it??? If he received it through inheritance then there would be paperwork proving that.
I still say its the FFL's mistake. HE needs to make good on the deal if you bring it back. If he wants to DEMAND you bring it back, then i would DEMAND a wilson combat 1911, or at least a colt 6920. Honestly, the guys license and business should be worth at least that. How else is one supposed to learn from their mistakes unless they get a little bite in the ass??
