****Atlanta Falcons**** And The NFL In General

The Atlanta Falcons will pick No. 17 in 2016 NFL draft

Here's a quick look at the top three positional needs for the Falcons:

1. Linebacker: The Falcons need a talented playmaker in the second level of the defense and a player who will be a sure tackler. A couple of years ago, the Baltimore Ravens had the No. 17 overall pick and found a Pro Bowl linebacker in C.J. Mosley. The last time the Falcons had a Pro Bowl linebacker was Keith Brooking in 2005. Notre Dame's Jaylon Smith and UCLA's Myles Jack might be two options. Smith is coming off a significant knee injury suffered in his bowl game that could drop him down the draft boards. Jack also is recovering from a major knee injury.

Here are five players slated to be unrestricted free agent that the Falcons must consider:

  1. Bruce Irvin, Seattle Seahawks, OLB. The Atlanta native wants to come home and reunite with Dan Quinn. He had five tackles, half of a sack and a quarterback hit in Seattle’s 10-9 win over Minnesota on Sunday.
  2. Nick Fairley, St. Louis Rams, DT. He had 29 tackles and half a sack while backing up Aaron Donald. He finished the season on IR with a concussion. He was effective while playing 427 snaps.
  3. Alex Boone, San Francisco, RG. Has a torn MCL, but will be the top interior player on the open market. Falcons right guard Chris Chester is 32. Boone is 28.
  4. Stefen Wisniewski, Jacksonville, C. The center snap was a wild adventure this season. He’s started 76 games for Oakland and Jacksonville.
  5. Demarcus Dobbs, Seattle. DE. The former Georgia Bulldog is 6-6, 275 and had played in 59 games.
Other interior offensive linemen to keep an eye on include Carolina’s Amini Silatou, Arizona’s Ted Larsen, Houston’s Brandon Brooks and Houston’s Ben Jones.
