I have a nephew who works full time and has a 12 year old severely autistic daughter. Does anyone know any GOOD doctors in the Coweta or surrounding area who treat severely autistic children? The doctor she has now either doesn’t seem to care or understand how to help her, the doctor changed her meds and the kid is just having the worst time of it now. My nephew is a single dad a second autistic daughter who is mainstreamed now and gets some help from his mom but she works full time too. He and his daughter need some REAL help, ASAP! He’s a good man and loves his kids. Thanks in advance for any good leads, Tazz…

Honestly, the best thing for your nephew may be to join a support group with the goal of sharing ideas | techniques and maybe some respite care. Caregiver support is very important as no doctor or therapist will have a silver bullet and at the end of the day it falls on the parent/caregiver and the lifestyle.

I've found you have to 2 or 3X your parenting in time/energy and focus on the basics over and over, which itself is mind-numbing and disheartening given the progress you see when raising someone "normal."

Most doctor's only help is "medicine." You get an hour with a Dr, therapist, whatever a week. What can they do besides coach the parent/patient on environmental factors and give them drugs?

Good luck to your nephew.

I would consider calling Piedmont Newnan… Such depth with Piedmont Network of Physicians and services
