Bartow County...Keep Your Vehicles Locked.

why do people leave guns in their vehicles and act surprised when they get ripped off?

Your location says Atlanta so maybe it is the norm for you.

I never locked my doors on my truck from the time I started driving until I had a gun stolen last year. About 13-14 years of no issues whatsoever. No stickers on truck, gun not in plain sight. Nothing else taken from truck, I had tools, ammo, holsters, all of it left in truck. They grabbed the gun and went. Maybe I just got lucky that it took that long. Now I keep it locked always, doesn't matter if I have anything in there or not.

i dont think atlanta has anything to do with it

sure the crime might be higher, but ****ty people exist everywhere. i just believe in keeping positive control of my firearms and leaving them in a vehicle doesnt fit that description in my opinion

The only thing I leave in my car is a phone charger and a bible. Guns go where I go. I had one stolen once in Cherokee county. Luckily is was a good ol truck gun and I has the serial number on it. Funny thing is they left the $600 check on the visor. The gun was in the glove box. Lesson learned for me

I don't believe it's Bartow co. In general, crime is on the upswing every where. I'm reconsidering taking my GCO sticker off my vehicle due to advertising (look, I might have a gun in my car). I've heard crooks look for such stickers.

People need to operate in the reality that we live in not the reality that they hope they live in. Lock your damn doors and quit bitching about it. Its never going back to the way it was.

I absolutely bombard my wife with reasons why she should lock her car doors when parking at home. She gets in then bam serial killer was in the back waiting for her.

Also, people are too lazy to carry a gun to and from the car/house everyday?

I'm glad to see the direction this thread has gone.

I found myself getting kind of disappointed in November and December when some members had weapons stolen from their vehicles. There was a lot of stuff about the thieves, but little holding the owner of the weapons as responsible at all.

I've often said, that should you choose to carry a weapon you should also take on the responsibility of being the coolest head in the crowd.

I felt it went without saying that security of said weapon was a responsibility you also accept.
(I'd never want one of my guns to end up in the hands of a bad guy and used on a good guy/gal.)

My first job in the Marines was guarding nukes on a carrier. It's the most boring job I've ever had and you get lots of time to reflect. It came to me one boring night what I was actually doing on that post. I was protecting weapons that protect me.

So I'll always see it this way, weapons protect people and people protect weapons. JMHO

Well said. Take responsibility and don't point blame elsewhere if it was something that you could have done to begin with.
