Do your due diligence, but people retaining their out of state cell phone number when they move isn't all that unusual these days. I've had the same Google Voice number that I've ported through to a number of different cell phones over the last 10-11 years. The area code is from the other side of the Rockies.

If you use VOIP like Ooma or Vonage you can pick whatever area code you want.

I can understand his silence. No one would admit to having an Alabama ID.

I retired from BellSouth over 20 years ago and even back then we had Local Number Portability, which did away with area code borders, allowing you to carry your telephone number practically anywhere you moved to.
