What type of pistol would you carry in black bear country? Do you think a Glock 10MM would be enough?

Also,
I am currently up at our lake cabin that is kind of out in the middle of nowhere in Lake Keowee South Carolina. It rained the night before last and when I went out to the water's edge I saw a track that, to my knowledge, was not there the day before. I planted my foot next to the track to give perspective (I have size 14 feet). As you can probably tell from the picture, the bank slants down to the left. Anybody have any idea what animal made this track? The animal's claw on its big toe (farthest right) seems kind of strange to me. I don't know if it is like that simply to keep it from sliding down the hill or what.

Some local Nudist camper got drunk and was rambling through the woods, hell may have even peeped in your windows. Now how does that make you feel ;)

Shooting a black bear in SD should be an absolute last resort. A wounded bear is dangerous to be near and even a lethal shot may take long enough to drop it to allow time for it to drop you. A warning shot or a loud shout with you waving standing your ground will run almost all of them off. They do NOT protect their cubs the same way brown bears/grizzlys do. They run one way and the cubs usually go up a tree. Then they come back later for the cubs. There are NO documented cases of black bears killing people to protect cubs....ever. Black bear attacks are almost always cases of people feeding bears resulting in them associating people with food. It's rare for even these bears to attack after a loud shout or warning shot. I have them in my yard/around my house fairly regularly. I've never even had to fire a warning shot. They are pretty skittish about human contact.
