What I would guess too. I always lock the bolt back on mine and never have a problem with it.

It is a tight fit, but you should not have to beat it on there.

It may have burs in the receiver or on the barrel. As it is new, possible warranty repair?

Make sure to release the shell lifter.

Also take off the forearm and see how well the barrel fits.
