Best Bench Vise for Torquing Gun Parts

I have a 6” Irwin swivel vise that works great. Just make sure it’s bolted down to a sturdy bench. I’ve used the Magpul bev block for ARs and the anarchy outdoors Ruger action rod without an issue.

Are you putting on muzzle devices & barrel nuts with the Bev block? I’ve done it before but it never felt totally steady

The problem for me is that I work two jobs and don’t have the free time to shop at estate sales. I know this is the common advice, but I’m fine with paying a premium to get a good new one.

Time is so limited that I barely make it into gun stores anymore, as I’ve gotten to the point where I’ll just order everything online hobby-wise and keep it on the bench until I get a free couple hours to work on it. If it wasn’t for podcasts on the road, I’d probably never think of new ideas on projects

Yeah I got you. No shame there. I just happen to go to a lot of estate sales and sell junk on ebay on the side for extra pocket money. I tend to buy a lot of tools that way so I thought it would be worth saying.

I’ve done both. Are you using the bolt carrier with it? It makes a big difference and works like the other action rods.

Yes to using the BCG.

Honestly, it might just be that old vise is that bad 😂

My vise is not that big but fine for AR work. It wouldn't be suitable for bolt action barrel removal.

If you want the best either Wilton or Record. We have both at work and they have been abused.

my 4" vise has worked great over the years(40+)...have no idea the maker...interesting thing is that the rear jaw moves, the front is stationary....pistol for scale
