As much 'fun' as those might be, I have a vision of her attempting to ward off one dog and the other getting one of ours in it's jaws. In that scenario, close range defense is probably too late to avoid damage. I'd rather fend them off before they make contact. The problem is, that would be fine (perhaps) with ONE dog, this is two. They are always together. I watched the animal control beat the snot out of one of these dogs and it didn't phase it at all, all the while the other circled behind him to try and take a bite out of his rear and he didn't have two dogs on leashes to contend with.

I know it is ****ty, but there are certain facts. Wind direction does not affect a bullet like an aerosol, no one wonders about the effectiveness of a bullet vs dog, a gun is easy to handle one handed, you don't have to be big to effectively handle a gun, and clearing leather with a pistol is much faster than pulling out bear spray.

A friend of mine was walking his 4 dogs, a pitt bull came from a yard and grabbed one of the dogs and ran off shaking it. My buddy gave chase leaving the other 3 dogs behind. The pitt bull dropped the first dog (dead) and ran back and grabbed another one. Ran off shaking it, then went back again and got the third dog. My buddy was running back and forth trying to stop the attack. He fell and got bruised up and some scratches from the fall. In the end, he had 1 dead dog and 2 in very bad shape, took $1100 in vet bills to save the 2 wounded pups. The 4th dog was smart and high tailed it home as soon as the attack started. He took the owner to court and was awarded the vet bills. The pitt bull owner was ordered to put up a fence. I don't think she complied with either order.

I can see that. Now imagine TWO attacking dogs. The owner of these dogs is equally responsible/responsive.

I have a beaver pond with plenty of hungry turtles. So far I've avoided the permanent solution even though the animal control officer said "I wouldn't blame you one bit." My wife slinging lead in the middle of the neighborhood is not a desirable solution for a variety of reasons. And I'm "trying" to remind myself, it's not the dogs' fault....
Having said that, I'm really surprised a child hasn't been mauled/killed by these things. The dogs are schizophrenic. I've seen them act perfectly calmly around some strangers and go absolutely ballistic around others.

Man quit worrying about it and just carry your gun. Bottom line is if the guy doesn't want his dogs shot then keep them at the house. Period.

The thing is. I'd say kill them if they attack. BUT, if the owner found out, even though the law might say you were justified in shooting them to protect yourself and your property (your dogs). The owner will find a way to get you back. He will kill your dogs, break in your house or even try to attack you. There seems to be no good answer if the law won't do anything. Maybe you need to go along on the walks to provide backup. Chances are, if they attack your pups and your wife tries to stop it, she may get hurt as well.

The dogs and the owner already have a huge paper trail, sounds like.

It is time to take the owner to court. He has no right to infringe on the safety of the neighborhood and neighbors.
