My love for the miata started because I am obsessed with old British roadsters. I like the handling characteristics, and the looks. But I absolutely hate finding parts, fixing stupid electrical issues, and overall lack of reliability. If I could have a dream car it would be a lotus elan, with either a miata engine, or gm ls series v8.

I purchased a new Miata back in 99 and loved it but always wanted more power. Sold it a few years later and bought a new 02 Corvette Z06. I still have the Z06 and love it but I've started having some problems with the EBCM, steering sensor, lateral accelerometer, etc which affect the traction control, active handling, and ABS. Have replaced all those components (not cheap) and it's still giving me fits. Definitely not a comfortable car to drive in the rain without those features... I purchased another Miata last year (02) because I always missed the Miata even after I got the Z06. Up on the mountain roads where I am almost every weekend the Miata is more fun. You can really wind it up and sling it around where the Z06 is just too easy to go too fast. Don't even have to run it through the gears. The Miata is a fun car. Not fast. If you're worried about beating the other kids off the stop light, or guys who say it's a chick car then it's not what you want. You can get a nice C5 Vette for your 15K budget or a nice low mileage Miata for less than half that. A S2000 would probably split the difference and also be a reliable choice. I've noticed the Z3 and Z4s have come way down in price too but I don't know much about maintenance costs and problems. I think any of those are going to hold their value pretty well over what you would pay for a used one in that year range at this stage. I like Mustangs and Camaros too but I don't personally consider those sports cars.

yes and no..parts for the motors are easy but no support from GM or saturn as the brads no longer exist

GM still has parts and will service them at Chevy dealerships.

Get an 01-04 z06 vette. You will not find a better car for the money. It's fast in a straight line, around a curve, and will get 30mpg on the hwy. The 01's have 385hp, 02-04 cars come with 405hp. Both have 6spd and weigh just over 3100lbs. They're fun cars.
