Beyond the Second Amendment: Why Every American Should Be Trained in Basic Firearms Proficiency

To use them and maintain proficiency, Sure. But some people don't want to own or even learn how to use a firearm.

Demystification and familiarization with firearms would be a public good, just like knowing basic first-aid.

I just don't think we should be imposing that on people.
Agree with all of this. No imposition, per se, but firearms education is important.

I wish it was taught in schools or at the very least offered as an elective, but in today's society, that is an absolute no-go.

I have known some to start at like 2yrs old. I mean not all bad. If it teaches them to be safe around them
My daughter is 7 and has been around guns her entire life. She understands gun safety (as much as she can at this age) and loves going to the gun store with me and sitting in the gallery watching people on the range shoot.

I told her when she gets a little older, I'll teach her to shoot. She has a child's .22LR waiting for her at our house.

It always amazes me how so many people here would like to see a more powerful government. Then 2 minutes later, jump on another thread and bitch about how the government has too much power.

You're liberals just hiding behind a vail like a prostitute wearing a white wedding gown.

I think my brother in law bought his daughter a Ruger Bearcat when she was like 4yrs old. I know she was carrying it in a holster when she was @ 5yrs old. She's like 27 and still shoots it to this day as far as I know

To the OP: This is essentially what started Project Appleseed. The founder realized that America was NOT a nation of capable riflemen. In fact, most "I've been shootin' my whole life" people are incapable of making consistent shots at rifleman distances without a shooting bench (if then), which would be in short supply in a real "situation".

Likewise few knew the history of our nation's founding, and most have become numb to the water rising around us as the Great Ship of Liberty sinks.

Appleseed seeks to improve the marksmanship of Americans and awaken us to the gift of liberty that is being lost through ignorance and apathy.
