So what I’m gathering is: a non gun owner takes a firearms proficiency course once & they are good for life?

I was under the impression that you had to train with said firearms on a semi regular basis.

To use them and maintain proficiency, Sure. But some people don't want to own or even learn how to use a firearm.

Demystification and familiarization with firearms would be a public good, just like knowing basic first-aid.

I just don't think we should be imposing that on people.

Made me think of the early days, when shootin' was fun. Sitting on a cliff overlooking the Flint with an old Savage pump .22 and a Bud 8 pack. Those little bottles made good targets. Too much fun. You can responsibly get kids into shooting at an early age, either they will take to it or not. The rest will take care of itself. I think.

I have a cousin that grew up in a household with firearms. I don't how many or anything. I do know her Dad quail hunted. One of her brothers is long time LE. According to her husband, she doesn't want guns in the house....... I've never had the conversation with her, we've always been close. I've always thought a lot of her. They did try to get me to take her oldest daughter hunting. They are great kids.

Yes - greatly increased taxes would be fantastic. We aren't giving daddy enough money already

Same... my daughter knew how to check and clear the action of any type of firearm very early.
She also learned to shoot them.

I have known some to start at like 2yrs old. I mean not all bad. If it teaches them to be safe around them
