Blaming entertainment

Njunk,
There is a huge difference between marketing and a widespread move toward a violent society based onthe content of entertainment. Besides, do you rush out and buy every item you see advertised? If not, why?

For the same reason everyone doesnt kill somone when they have seen it repeatedly.
But a few will. (just like commercial response)

BUT, to suggest that what we view has NO effect on us goes against reality. It also goes
against logic and science. If nothing else repeated viewing of violence numbs one somewhat to
it. Children are especially affected.

I am not blaming TV/games for 'mass shootings' etc......its a much deeper issue than that. But to suggest that our environment and exposure has 'no effect' is silly.

say what you want but you ARE influenced by what you put in yourself......same as food

seen what happens to people who are brainwashed? they are inundated by whatever they are forced to view and become accustomed to it. So whether it makes you do it or you become indifferent.........it HAS affected you.

I agree with the argument that Movies and Games can numb a man/kids mind to killing, the more they kill, on most 1st person shooter games, the more they kill, the more points they get so that in itself makes killing look like a good thing.
Then, as much as I like em muyself, some mof the movies out now do the same, glorify killing.
I got addicted to America's Army for a while and was wasting several hours a day and ,most of the other players were kids that had never held an M4, but to vbe able to plat that game each player must first attendthe virtual "boot Camp", where they also must pass the weapons qualification course and learn enough about the virtual M4 to pick up a real one and hit targets, same as the game required.
So in my mind there is a bit of Monkey see, Monkey do, mentality involved with all these senseless killings, so if they want to ban guns, then they should also ban the damn games that promote killing and cut back on the amout of gore in thge movies, it is all tied together.
I also agree with "The only thing that will stop bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun"

I'm not claiming there's no effect. I'm claiming it's a very bad argument against gun control. clearly, as a society we do need to parent our children better.

saying that this sort of thing is what causes mass shootings is not going to win our argument however.

there is no reasonable line of evidence i have seen that shows that any of these recent perpetrators watched an inordinate number of violent movies or play first person shooter games.

maybe we do need to reduce the amount of violence in our media but this is not the reason.

It's ridiculous to think that the ultra-violent video games have no affect on a child:

I finally had time to watch these. This guy makes so much sense about the other factors that cause a person to commit mass shootings that I have to take his opinions about the effects of violence in games and movies seriously. Damn, this is one of those times I have to really examine things and may just have to change my beliefs. He does seem to really know what he is talking about.
