I used epoxy primer on my jeep Comanche. That stuff is super tough and the paint is holding up much better than I'd hoped so far. I drive thru scrub brush as high as the truck that would tear normal paint up, all I have so far is a few light scratches. I used the two part stuff from Midwest military paint. All in cost was around $250 for paint and primer.
