Bought a Vortex scope today

Point well made. I don't get the scope dialed in that day. In fact it was a week turn around time. They are fast but I fear they have gotten good at it. That may not be a good thing.

I like to keep the center of the cross hairs on my target at range. Although I don't shoot real long ranges with the custom turret I will get I can just dial in the range and it takes the guess work out of it.

If you are going to rely on turret adjustments for wind age and elevation and, returning to zero, accurately , you are likely moving in the direction of above $1k price tag. Well above.

I have an old Bushnell scope on my dad's 30-06. It has a bullet drop compensator built into the elevation turret. It came with an assortment of replaceable bullet drop compensator turret inserts. I put the 30 caliber one in and that thing works like a charm. I guess they just don't make them like they used to. I actually lost that 30 caliber insert because the top cap came loose. I lost the cap and the turret. Now take into consideration we bought that scope in the late '70s. A couple of years ago I called them and they actually had them in stock and sent me a whole new assortment and top cap for nothing. They even paid for shipping. The girl asked for my address and 4 days later I got it in the mail. I almost couldn't believe it. That scope has been hanging in there since 1978 and still hold the zero and as good as you can want it to. The scope was made in Japan and it's built like a tank but it's held up.

Ive had good luck with this specific optic, but only out to 150yrds and on a .22. Good box test with almost no shift.

Now thats a .22 and wouldn't put this level of optic on much else IMO.

Im a Nightforce and Steiner fan.

You're lucky. I have 2 out of 3 Bushnell that don't work. And they wouldn't even return a phone call. One just fogged up straight 4x. The other, a Banner 4-12x 40 with AO. That one lost zero and the crosshairs. I only used it on a 308, I'll never buy another Bushnell again. I also have a Simmons that fogged up. My Taco is 40+, Redfields 30+. Nikon, the same. Leupold, I guess 20-25yrs. Those are all VX III. I can tell you those have taken quite a beating with safari game rifles and no problem at all. 375 H&H, 416 Rigby and 458 Win Mag

None of that is going to increase your ability to dial and hit. Some you mentioned are not proven long term and are the cheap China I referenced. Nice do-dads are fun, but they're not really improvements. And they cost to make, which means if it's coming in at the same price, they're cutting elsewhere. Usually, it's quality of basic components and/or substandard labor. Sacrificing those does affect your long term reliability.

The reason I asked was because I was expecting to learn of something new. Typing out of your backside doesn't really accomplish anything.
