Looking to see if anyone else out there had a similar circumstance.

I bought a new S&W 460 XVR (8" barrel) from Bud's. I've always wanted one. Shot two 460 rounds (275 grain Federal) and the gun broke. Would no longer cycle the cylinder or cock the hammer. I had to send the revolver back to Smith. That process was "ok" at best. They send you a prepaid and preinsured shipping label but it takes at least 4 weeks and you have to pay for all the shipping materials of course. Each email to you regarding the repair comes from a different employee and it took forever to get a shipping label. Ran into a Karen or an anti-gunner at FedEx (amusing story), while trying to ship it. Just received the gun back last week. Appears to work but still need to shoot it. Repair sheet said the yoke was broken.

So, this was my first Bud's experience and it was not great. I've had lots of Smith handguns and this was the first issue. Anyone else bought a brand new gun that immediately broke?

Dan Wesson 357 revolver. Hammer locked back and chambered on live round. Took it to a gun shop and they got it unlocked. Sent in back to DW. Got it back and it appeared to fire fine, but I never trusted it again and sold it. I've had a Smith hand spring break on a model 60. No big deal. That pistol was abused before I got it and I knew it. You shoot enough you'll have things break.

The delay you experienced could be down to the general confusion at Smith with their factory move, but overall, it's pretty disappointing that you received a gun that barely limped across the QC lines.

I think I've mentioned elsewhere that I've had a couple of returns to S&W, in both cases on Performance Center guns, both with retail prices of $1000+. One was a general recall, the other was a clocked revolver barrel - and we're talking maybe 3 or 4 degrees out of alignment.

Makes me really consider whether I want to give them any more of my money.

What has your experience been with Bud's?

I've bought maybe one gun from Buds.

The thing is, if that was a new gun, they (Buds) probably never opened the box, and didn't inspect the gun either. If I was them, I wouldn't, because it would open me up to liability etc.

Buds has a mixed reputation, but I think part of that is down to the enormous amount of product they ship. Frankly, if a dealer's website accurately reflects their inventory level, and they process orders efficiently and at the price you were expecting to pay, they've done their job. QC is S&W's issue.

Well, someone needs to tell Smith when you pay $1500 for a handgun it should actually work, at least more than twice! I didn't even shoot the heavy 454 casull hard cast ammo.
I agree. I've bought Colts that didn't work right. These newer guns like everything else have quality control issues. That's why us older folks like the older stuff, they work and the quality is so much better. Just sayin. The only way I buy something new if it wasn't made before now. I'm sure your gun will work fine for a long time now. But yea, I'd been aggravated too
