I dont expect them too. Once they hand me a lower, I can have it done in just a couple hours at most. The customer can wait nearby and do whatever they want while they wait.
couple hours at the most? I thought you were going to be meticulous and go the extra mile to insure perfection. That'll involve some filing and reshaping of parts since you're planning on using crap that needs attention.

I hate to be so pessimistic, brother... but c'mon.

Let me share an interaction I had last week.

I had a Form 4 finally approved for an SBR that I was checking into a gun trust. I needed to have it laser engraved with the name of the trust onto the lower - arguably not "gunsmithing" at all.

I went to a well known gun store with an armorer, based down in Marietta and asked them if they could do it immediately. They said it would take 20 minutes to engrave, so I could wait.

I spoke to the gunsmith and asked if there would be a problem if I went two doors down to pick up a soda - and he said "We'd rather you didn't. If you step outside the building, I really need to check the gun into the bound book if you do.". And he was right to stop me.

That firearm would have been clearly outside my possession and that would have put that company outside of federal law. That's not a place ANYONE wants to go. Especially if they're a very small company working on very slim margins (which I doubt this particular company is - they're well-established and have a good reputation)

People who get arrested for violating applicable federal gun laws can and do get locked up and fined.

Apparently, reading isn't your thing. He clearly stated earlier that "Again, im not stupid or nieve about this. I appreciate the concern but I got this. I'm 100% confident and know what's legal and what ain't."

I am aware. My main focus will be uppers. Again, ill have the paperwork I need. But if a customer wants a lower built, they will bring it to me, wait outside and the lower will be returned to the owner in under 24 hrs. So it'll technically be in their possession still. Again, I ain't stupid, I'm not gonna risk any illegal action
I don't have 24 hours to wait.

Also, getting it done in the same business day doesn't mean you don't need an FFL, it just means for FFL's they don't have to log in the firearm. So many people confuse that.

I assure you, In the eyes of the ATF, any work you do to someones gun is going to require a license. The only exception would be friends and hobbyist just helping each other out.

But that's not what you're doing, you're advertising an unlicensed gunsmithing business.

Not gonna hate on you because I ran a unlicensed gunsmithing business myself for awhile, but I didn't ADVERTISE it

You gotta get all your licensing squared away before you go out advertising to the public.
Really that's all the licensing is good for it being able to go online and tell everyone you're in business instead of just your friends and family.

You've put the cart in front of the horse.

Just getting a feel for things and trying to spread the word a bit. Yes I'll have the correct form and such before any business is done.

One last posting, and then I'll stop being such a Debbie Downer.

Can't fault the ambition, but what you're proposing to do puts you and your family at risk unless you're prepared to do a lot of paperwork and get some more practical experience before you even start talking about the services you want to provide.

Some of the things that have been talked about will protect you from breaking the law.

Some of the things that have been talked about will help you turn this plan into a success story.

But no man is an island, and you have a family. Indeed one of the reasons you want to get into this is to help your family. Your plan, as it stands, including many of the corners you're cutting at the moment - puts you AND YOUR FAMILY at significant risk.

Seek help elsewhere if you won't accept it from here.
