Just started bass fishing Brushy Branch off of Blacks Bluff Rd. Looking for any advice on lures, spots to try, time of day, general tips for a novice angler. Not looking to go out all the way to the Coosa river, but will fish from the last channel marker back in to the boat ramp. Thanks!

What is the color and visibility of the water? I normally do well with pumpkin seed, watermelon seed, green pumpkin or black trick worms on a shaky head (color's listed are in order from clearest to not clear in visibility). You can also use the same colors with J or D hook tail worms on a Texas or Carolina rig.

Fish the rocks over close to the bridge all down that wall .... and another place is the creek that runs across from the boat ramp .... If you go under the bridge the water is shallow over there with alot of stumps but decent fishing ...

Hey man! all good advice so far, also, flipping a plastic worm or lizard under the docks always works well, the above listed colors, but basically like bass fishing anywhere else, just try to match the water color. If nothing seems to be working, try something with a chartreuse tail.

If you go out to the river, make sure you follow the channel out and back, stay inbetween the signs until you've gone with someone a few times that can show you the few places you really don't have to. At the river, if you turn left, you're not quite a mile to the Alabama line, generally speaking the power lines are what most consider the state line, don't go into AL if you have fish in the boat, really even rods unless you have an AL license, they WILL ticket you.

if you turn right, there are several creeks and backwater areas to go into. About 3 miles up there's an island in the river, just before you get to it, there's a creek to the right that takes you into Burns Bottoms, about 6 more miles up on the left is Kings Creek. both have been decent for me through the years, but if you really want to catch some fish, get the AL non resident license and learn your way around Mud Creek, Godfrey Island and the campgrounds....all have produced good fishing for me through the years. one thing about the AL non resident license is it runs august to august, so if you buy it now, you'll have to turn around and buy it again in a couple of months.

Good Luck! the thing to remember about Brushy and Weiss is, watch the depth finder and if you're not familiar with where you're going, go SLOW. you can get in trouble there quick. Chaz
