Building first AR15

If you only want a complete upper, I’ll double down on BCM.

Someone mentioned SOLGW. Either way, great quality, lots of available configurations and they’re both very reasonably priced for what you get.
BCM might still have the free bcg with an upper purchase thing they do. AND you get a ****load of stickers. 😂
I dont see any BCM's with a heavy-ish barrel.

What do you think of the Rock River Predator upper I posted?

Not familiar with the quality of that barrel, and I’m not sure which BCG they supply with that upper.

They have a BCG that, on paper, appears to check all the boxes for milspec. RRA supposedly machines their own BCG’s, and I have never gauged any of their BCG’s, so I’m not sure about them.

There’s a few companies whose upper receiver assembly techniques I trust; SOLGW, Centurion Arms, and BCM come to mind. Anyone who is suspect, such as RRA, I would disassembling and proper reassembling. I’ve seen a lot of issues with improperly assembled uppers, and it always pays to gauge the gas port when assembling.

In short, I don’t have personal experience with the parts that make up that RRA upper, so I can’t say it’s good or bad. If you do buy it, disassemble and properly reassemble to make sure, checking the gas port while you’re in there.

I will do more research on it!

For the record RRA factory rifles have an accuracy guarantee and everyone I have ever cared to check has passed the test with flying colors! Quite possibly the best (meaning accurate) rifles to be had at prices of $700-$1000 ish. That goes for the .308 platform stuff as well. And yes I am ONLY vouching for accuracy and never had a failure in range/plinking use, light drill scenarios…

Thanks Dan. This is just something I want to try out. I have heard others swear by their accuracy and quality. I just don't want to spend Aero money on a first build.

Aero money? I haven’t looked in awhile, but they use to be great and super affordable. Maybe they got cocky

That’s what I thought. I also think it’s a decent choice if you’re looking to “cheap out” kinda.
Correct. OP you can get an Aero complete upper for $500. I get its your first build, but buying really cheap generally has led me to buying twice.

Done business with these guys, and they're good people, but maybe you can find it cheaper elsewhere. Throw a BCM BCG in it and CH and youre good to go.
