Just wondering if anyone else has had this happen. This is my second Moto G Stylus phone that has had the battery swell to the point that it cracked the phone case it's been in since I bought it almost two years ago.
I assume one or possibly more of my chargers is over charging it and causing this but I have no way to determine if that is in fact the cause and which one it is since I have random chargers here at home and two at work. And of course Google's recent AI generated responses are worse than useless. In fact they're contradictory to themselves.

Time to poke it and watch the flames🔥

The phone should have protection from a bad charger. Cold or hot temps during charging tends to kill most phone battery's

Well our shop gets around 110° the whole time we're running. The shirt dryer has to run at 670° to dry the ink. Even with multiple fans and an exhaust fan in the back wall it's still hot as hell. But when the phone is charging there it's right in front of a fan. I just kind of assumed that the must be spikes in the current going into the battery.

I'm on my third Motorola model; my son's last three phones have been Motorolas as well. No problems, including lots of third party USB chargers and wireless charges of various sorts.

Because it's happened twice, it's unlikely the battery management system in the battery (unless it was two batteries with the same defect). But the phone is also part of the charging logic, and perhaps the software or circuitry in the phone is bad., leading to overcharge.

IMHO: It's not worth messing with. Even small LiON battery failures can burn a house down. Hate to tell you to move on to a different phone from a good quality phone like that, but it's simply not worth the risk.

It's happened to my phone too. It swelled up so much, it split the phone open along the seal.

I changed the battery after some reluctance. Just let it sit without charging for over a month, so it would have no voltage when I worked on it. Just takes some time to take the phone apart, unplug the little connections and then put it back together.

New battery wasn't as good as the factory one, so I ended up changing phones later on.

Believe they just fail after so many cycles of discharge and recharge. Nothing to do with the charger. Maybe some are caused by random flaws in he battery....?

This is my third Motorola. First one I bought straight from them and took it to Verizon and told them to activate it. They didn't like that but I didn't give a **** since I didn't like THEM. I think it stopped charging unless it was turned off. Then we went to AT&T and I got basically a newer version of the same Stylus G or something like that. I believe that's the one that started the bulged battery thing.
I like Motorola phones and I don't wanna change brands. I hate iPhones mostly because I hate Apple for obvious political reasons. Although the original iPhone 4 I had in 12/13 had THE best battery life ever. But I refuse to be on the hook for 2/3 years with any company for a damn $1500 or even more for a damn phone. So then I had a damn Galaxy S8 I believe it was. Everything about that phone sucked ass except the camera . And since the other brands available are kinda sketchy at best I just really want to stick with Motorola.
My daughter is 18 this week and needs a new phone. Looking real hard at going to Boost with the two lines at $50.00 each per month and new 2025 Moto G Stylus models. I'm SO done with paying Verizon and AT&T all those fees and taxes for what they offer.

I think I can get access to the battery on this phone without being a damn phone repair guy. But I believe the case back is probably damaged by the battery pushing on it to the point it probably won't go back on if I take it off. Or hell, it might break when I try to take it off.

Cricket, if you want the same phones to continue to work.

I think we may have discussed this before. I bring my unlocked phones (bought new or sometimes renewed) to my Cricket plan. AT&T network with no AT&T bull****.

I've seen big expensive cooling cabinets for charging radios, etc.. in hot warehouses; you can do the same thing with a cheap old wine cooler set at 78.
