Hey Folks,

I have a pinhole leak in the polybutelene pipe in the garage for hotwater leading to the washer. The leak is about 2 inches from where the pipe enters the floor and doesn't seem like there is enough there to just repair with new pipe which I have done on previous leaks. It's a pinhole and I was curious if epoxy it really well, then letting it dry and wrapping the **** out of it with silicone tape would work?

Thanks!
Caleb

Can you use a SharkBite on polybutylene pipe?

The SharkBite Polybutylene Transition coupling, part number U4016LF, will work for the 7/8 OD Polybutylene x 3/4in CTS tubings. You can review our insertion depth chart for outer diameter tubing size conversion to our SharkBite fittings.

Yes. The ones with the grey collars not the tan collars

If it's gray poly then your screwed! Best to bite the bullet ,and replace it. If your pipe is PEX then repair would be fine.

It's gray PB. had a leak before I was able to replace the section with PEX but this one looks a lot more like a plumber job and am trying to buy at least a couple of weeks. I know long term I need to rip this garbage out though.

I have made temp repairs by drying the area, a wrap of rubber tape, couple of wraps with a quality vinyl tape, then a radiator or heater hose clamp directly over the hole. One was still in place after a couple of years.
