Can one just buy complete uppers and change calibers?

Put the upper together yourself. Buy a good Type 2 barrel and a headspaced bolt or BCG. Companies like Sons Of Liberty Gun Works offer a 16” 6.5G barrel, and will match a BCG or bolt to it for you. That’s a rock solid barrel that’s a proven performer, with a top notch BCG.

Companies like Ballistic Advantage and Odin Works also offer a barrel/BCG combo, although I’m not a fan of nitrided BCG’s, which they both come with. Most folks don’t have an issue with them.

Any standard AR15-type upper should work on your DB AR15 lower.

Yeah I started looking through the Firearms chat and realized I was not going to go BCA. I read an article on pew pew and they tested 5 complete uppers and I like the Sanders and it comes with complete upper with the Type 2 barrel for $468. They shot a .57 MOA at 100 and a 1.56 MOA at 400 yards. The only downside I see is it comes with Nitride BCG. What is an issue with Nitride BCG?

I’ve seen brittleness issues. The majority are just fine, but I steer clear as long as I have other options.

I've got a 6.5 grendel BCA 24" stainless. It shoots GREAT. I also have a BCA 7.62x39 that has a live round stuck in it because the chamber is out of spec. The fine folks at BCA customer service told me to PUT A RAMROD DOWN THE BARREL AND HAMMER OUT A LIVE ROUND. So needless to say, BCA can move to CHAZ for all I care

Thanks. I wont be shooting 1000's of rounds through this, does that make any difference? I just want to take my 300 blackout upper off and slap it on and sight it in and then go shoot hogs/coyotes with it when I hunt

Thanks for your help!

You’re welcome. Doesn’t sound like it’s a gun that you’re going to be betting your life on, so no worries on giving it a shot. Worst case scenario is that on down the road you may have to replace the bolt and/or carrier.

The 6.5 Grendel barrel sold by SOLGW is made by Ballistic Advantage, but to SOLGW’s specs, which are tighter than BA’s standard specs. I haven’t seen an issue with any of the SOLGW barrels yet.

No but at the same time, I would rather get a good one and not have to worry about it. Buy once and cry once
