If you just want a nice beach and warm weather, go to the Virgin Islands.

Yeah, you could go to a nice resort or hotel in the US. Get out and enjoy Mexico if you're making the trip. That's the whole point if the airline ticket.
Cancun Is to crowded, to many Mexicans and way to many crooked cops for me. My bride and I went to one of the Out Islands of the Bahamas for our honeymoon last year. No crowds, very Friendly locals,postcard beaches, killer bonefishing and all the cheap rum you can drink. Dont think we will ever go any other place tropical in the future. It was the absolute best trip ever
i would so enjoy the social inequity, crippling poverty, cartel linked death squads, corrupt government officials/police, and the poor sanitary conditions in much of mexico

Seriously, to the OP. I would look for another place located within the US. Traveling abroad can be very dangerous, more so than in the US.
