Are there any textile mills in your neck of the woods? If so, they use a wax block as a lub in the process, and as I understand it there are always leftover pieces. I've seen these wax scraps for sale by the barrel on Craigslist for a very reasonable price. I don't know much about wax, but the seller was touting it as "perfect for candles".
