catawba / catalpa worms

My Dad and I fished with this type of worm for years. Crappie and shell crackers loved them, and so did snapping turtles.

Picked 200 yesterday. Going back in the morning for 200 more. Got 2 grandsons that are going to have a ball this summer fishing!

I have several trees at my cabin (including the biggest one I've ever seen in my life growing on my river bank). and planted 3 at my house. If you plant one make sure it is in FULL SUNLIGHT (with good water). I planted all three in dappled light and after 2 years dug two up to move them into full light. The difference in size two years after that is absolutely unbelievable. Actually it was incredible after just one year.
Anyway, the ants raid the eggs on the ones at my house and between wasp and who knows what else it's hard to get much of a crop at all. :( The ones at the cabin get fully defoliated mutiple times but I did have a bad problem with the parasitic wasp eggs last year (first time that's happened).
I'm convinced there's not a fish swimming that can resist a catalpa worm.
