Does anyone know a Gunsmith that can do chamber castings? I am helping a family friend get rid of a couple old Mauser action rifles that someone sporterized and 1 appears to be a .308 and the other a .30-06. Just want to know for sure. Thank you for your time & help,

nice looking guns.

Pretty easy to do yourself, no special skills required.

Paying a gunsnith will really eat into sale price of guns.

Has he removed the guns from the stock to see if there are any markings on the bottom of barrel?

Good idea, to find out what those chambers really are .

Just The other day at a gun shop in the Metro Atlanta area, I saw on old (1950's -1970's) bolt action rifle labeled on the price tag as a "22 Long rifle". But looking at the 17 caliber hole at the end of the muzzle, I knew that it wasn't a .22 anymore.

Upon further examination it seems this gun had the barrel replaced and receiver actually cut back a half an inch!

P.S. The gun itself was not marked with the caliber / cartridge. The price tag said 22 Long Rifle, but the actual steel on the barrel or the receiver did not have any stampings as to what caliber it was.
