Chambered or Not?

streetroc85350, explain to me how I am going to get rid of that mental picture now! Gosh, please do say things like that again!

I am currently having this discussion on another fourm. Pretty much the same things said on it also. Either carry with one in the pipe or dont carry. A tool needs to be ready to be used at all times.

I carry a Para-Ordnance P-14-45 with a round in the chamber and the thumb safety on, plus 2 extra 14 round mags, all my carry ammo is Winchester Ranger SXT 230 grn. So with that load out I am carrying 7 rounds shy of a full box of .45 cal ammo on my person at any given time. I'm not a cop, nor am I in any kind of protective service field, I have been involved in firefights in the military however and one of the lessons I learned is that there is no such thing as too much ammo. Plus part of the action and clearing drills is that you drop the mag and insert a fresh one, in the unlikely event my Para fails me. Also I shoot what I carry and I carry what I shoot, my pistol has almost as many SXT rounds through it as it does hardball.

Another reason to carry chambered is that you may not have the use of your other hand to accomplish charging the pistol.

You may need the off hand to keep someone at bay while you draw, or to deflect a blow, parry a club or knife, etc.

You don't know when, how close, or how quickly violence will come.

Yup. The most dangerous guns are empty ones...

If youre not going to carry your pistol chambered you shouldnt wear your seatbelt either. If you think you are about to crash you can just put it on real quick.
