Cheap handgun for the truck

Truck Gun= Don’t mind if it gets stolen gun?
Truck Gun= Irresponsible gun owner gun?
Truck Gun= potential donation to criminals gun?
As I have mention before I will only use it at night. If I leave when it's dark or come home when its dark. Basically saying it won't be left in the truck all the time. I plan some every trip since it takes 20-30 minutes to get to any place going. I will know if I will need it or not. The reason I used truck gun is because I drive a truck. It wouldn't bed a truck gun used in traditional fashion. I could be walking down from my truck and run into a bear. I don't too or go through any high crime areas but if I had to I might put it in the truck for that trip. Other than that it's in the safe. I had a Fors Bronco broke into and they got I-pads, computer and a digital camera. That was the first time. It for broke into 3 more times. We learned a very valuable lesson that day. Then the Minivan we had for hauling our kids around for stolen from my drive way. The police found it less that 15 miles from the house. I had for lazy that Sat night and didn't stop to put gas in it. It was stolen early Sunday morning. 🤣 All that work to get to a restaurant parking lot about 12 miles away. On that note I don't store anything of value in the vehicle anymore. A cheap pair of sunglasses is about it. I have had my own guns since I was 10 years old. All my guns are locked up in the safe when I leave the house or if I'm expecting company. I take out my first line of defense when I get home. I've never had a gun stolen in 47 years and don't plan on getting one stolen out of the vehicle that's for darn sure.

I would suggest a revolver.
Reason being is they are much more reliable in the situations you have described. It would take more abuse and grit, etc., than a semi auto and still remain reliable. I love my semi auto Colts, etc., but carry a revolver 90% of the time.
Just my opinion tho.
Good luck in whatever you decide ! :)
Second the revolver.

Look, I get it. It’s a dangerous world out there between your truck and your front door. The path might be dark and unknown, and you can never be too prepared to fend off wayward squirrels, rogue garden gnomes, or the occasional ominous mailbox shadow. But, let’s dive deep here, because this decision requires serious contemplation.

First things first, let’s talk about “affordable.” You’re looking for something sub-$400, so we’re definitely venturing into the realm of… let’s call it “creatively reliable.” You know, something with enough character that it becomes a trusted companion, with quirks that’ll keep you guessing every time you pull the trigger. You might consider a fine piece of “non-mainstream engineering”—where each shot brings a little suspense. A thrill! Will it fire? Will it jam? It’s kind of like the old days, like spinning a revolver in the wild west.

Now, some people might suggest you get a reliable holster, so your setup isn’t rolling around loose like a lonely tic-tac in the truck. But you’ve already said “no” to such a basic approach. Nope! Holsters are just so… predictable, aren’t they? Why bother with that nonsense? Instead, picture this: you’re driving down a bumpy road, and your chosen firearm has developed a little… personality. It's rattling around, adding that unmistakable clack-clack-clack to the ambient symphony of loose change and old receipts. It’s like an audible security system. Every thief for miles will know you’re prepared.

For nighttime transitions from your truck to your door, might I suggest taking this to the next level? Don’t limit yourself to carrying it in just one spot every time. Embrace spontaneity! Slide it into different nooks and crannies of your truck, so every evening you have a delightful surprise hunt. One night it could be wedged in the passenger seat cushion, the next it’s nestled beneath your morning coffee cup. Not only is this an exercise in vigilance, but it keeps you on your toes, ready for anything. Nothing says “I’m prepared” like fumbling with your beverage before you can even think about engaging.

Remember, you’re not just looking for a firearm here; you’re seeking a whole experience. Something within budget, yet with a bit of mystery. Choose carefully, because this weapon will be with you in your most vulnerable moment of the day: when you face that harrowing journey of 20 feet to your front door, dodging shadows and wrestling invisible adversaries. With the right pick, you’ll make that journey a legendary odyssey.

Happy hunting, and may the weapon you choose be both budget-friendly and blessed with just the right level of unpredictability.
You had me at garden gnomes.

OP I don't even bother carrying anymore. I ain't scared of dying and I'll Jason Bourne a pistol out of someones hands and reinsert it into that persons rectum before squeezing the trigger. I really am that good. ;)
