Cheap handgun for the truck

Staccato. How much is your life worth? Personally mine is worth more than $250-$300. Carry the best you can afford and keep it with you.

Not trolling here but I'm not sure you are clear on what a truck gun is. Everyone's life is worth way more than the price of any gun. It's just that in most cases there's a practical limit to how much an individual can spend just to sit at the ready at all times. And just as a practical matter I would personally prefer a DA/SA auto pistol DA revolver or MAYBE even a DA only auto for this particular duty .

We have plenty of auto pistols here at my house and I dig all of them ( especially since I picked them out) . But my instincts tend to go with what I learned from Boomers WAY back when. I have a Charter Undercover snub next to my side of the bed and an old FIE snub in 32 Long stashed in the linen closet.
No, I don't wanna go to war or get into a shootout with either one. But I KNOW that when I grab either one it will go bang without fail.

I keep a Charter .44spcl Bulldog by my chair in my den. Most of the time it is what I carry if I run out to the store or something.
My father gave it to me some 20+yrs before he passed….he had sawed the bbl off even with the ejector pin and bobbed the hammer, that thing is comfortable, accurate and everyone that handles it wants it ! lol.
I wouldn’t part with it for much of nothing !!

Yeah I get it. And don't get me wrong I do love single action 1911 pistols. Although I must admit that I have zero experience with the high end models you referred to.
One of my earlier points was that according to the OP this would be a truck gun. With that in mind we MUST consider that it will be somewhat neglected at best and stolen at worst. That was the motivation for my earlier comment. Now I'm sure there HAS TO BE something that you would use in this scenario that's at least a little more in the affordable side.

I dig the Charter revolvers. The Bulldog is one of the coolest longest running models Charter has. I dig the frame size and barrel length. My only gripe with it is the caliber. And I know it's available in other calibers but 44 Special is without a doubt the most common. I would much rather have it in 357 Mag or even 45 Colt. But yeah that's a pretty damn good Chair Gun.

Before my stepfather died he went to Howard's Pawn with me and bought an Anderson complete lower. Then we ordered a 16" PSA upper in 300BO to pin to it. He never fired it.
But while we were there I showed him the Shockwave pump. Back then they were under $350.00. He went back the next month and bought one in 12 gauge even though I told him to get 20 gauge. Anyway THAT was his living room couch side piece. I'm just really glad he didn't have to use it. I fired birdshot through it after he died and that sucked bad enough.

Personally, a "neglected " would not be my choice. As far as stolen, I keep my weapon with me as much as possible and legal and if stolen, that's what insurance is for.
As far as affordable goes, I would have no problem with several of the options mentioned but Taurus and KelTec would definitely not be on the list. The OP mentioned owning several "expensive " weapons and didn't want to use them in this capacity... he also mentioned spending $600. in upgrades to a Taurus 1911 so I don't believe that cost is the a limiting factor completely. Again, I just stated what works for me.

True that! I’m not in a subdivision anymore, but I still take my small 380 to go out to the mailbox. You never know.
