Cheap Handgun/Shotgun

This will be my first, I have a shotgun that my buddy let me hold on to but other than that, I've never even fired a gun. I would like one for home as well as my vehicle. I don't have any training yet however, bartow county offers free gun training/safety courses a couple times a month. I will be participating in the next one.

@CHirt is a local NRA instructor in Cartersville.

I've been through half a dozen of his classes over the years and he is a good one.
Ive even taken the kids and grandma to a few.

I can also point you to a long gun instructor thats her in Cartersville if you need.

Welcome to the odt,
Tye

I would prefer both, any advice and/or
recommendations are greatly appreciated!
These days a firearm & training are a necessity (jmho).
Since your family's safety is paramount and decision to
purchase a firearm has required serious consideration
seems advisable to also be looking for a less sinister
place to live. Moving can easily cost more than a new
High Point since have to hire loaders while you cover
the half loaded U-haul (tempting target). Sounds like
you & yours have already lost enough sleep worryin'.
Possession of firearm creates it's own maze of decisions.
If you fire or even display it may have to explain your
actions to authorities. Which can lead to charges, confiscation,
legal expenses. If you have to actually shoot someone these
after effects quickly escalate. Shooting maybe justified but
even so that will not prevent economic impact far greater
than cost of cheap gun. Few cans of hornet spray a lot cheaper.

Get a couple of these for now.

I'm looking for a cheap firearm, preferably under $150. We live in a rough neighborhood, the more I learn, the more I feel the need to be prepared just in case.

If you are looking for inexpensive firearm instruction look into Appleseed Project. They run weekend marksmanship clinics with several events close to you coming up. It is rifle marksmanship but the fundamentals are good to learn and if you ask there is often a loaner rifle for you to use. Wife would be welcome as well. They also have started a "pistolseed" which will teach pistol fundamentals as well. Don't know if those have been scheduled yet as they are new. Whole weekend is $60 per shooter. If you are interested feel free to pm me. Might be a great way to get your feet wet in squeezing a trigger and be able to talk in person about good choices for your needs.
