The Europeans are about to lose their minds over contrails in the sky…. and are big on the whole idea of charging/taxing airlines and private operators for "polluting the air"….

Those Europeans probably , for the most part, aren`t old enough to remember WWII. Imagine 100 or more B-17s, B-24s starting engines before a mission. Each bird had four radial engines. That`s 400 or more engines. Several bases would start engines at the same time. Now THAT`S pollution. A radial engine pours smoke on start-up, especially if it has been sitting all night.
That’s why we introduced the F-4 Phantom.
