Classic Hunting Rifles

I mostly bow hunt the last several years, but felt like pulling this ol girl out of the safe: She’s a Ruger M77 Bicentennial in 30/06 that my parents gave me for Christmas when I was 18. I killed my first and my biggest deer with it along with several others. It came to me without a scope on it, and I’ve had several different ones over the years, mostly a gloss Leupold of some kind. As a kid I hunted with my uncle’s 700 in ‘06 and it had a Leupold 1.5-5 Vari-x III on it. A couple years back I found this one new in box from 1972 on eBay from the estate of an outdoor writer in New York.

I’ll probably never sell it given all the nostalgia, but what would y’all figure on value for the package? Show a pic of your classic hunting rifle if you care to.

Not sure on value but I’ve been looking to add one to the collection. Here are two that I would consider classics. One is a Swedish Mauser sporter in 6.5 x 55 and the other is my Remington 700 in 30-06.

I am think about 1,500.if it's very clean.with optic. Problem is people just aren't buying rifles at that price much right now. I have a late 70's early 80's 700 BDL 30-06 and I love it. I just need a good recoil pad. This 1/8 hard plastic but plate will beat you to death.

Rarely hunt with a rifle anymore but occasionally I carry one when the feeling of nostalgia, memory of a friend that has since passed or just the neatness of carrying something forgotten hits me. I love the feel of my Ruger no K1a 257 Roberts. Still haven’t pulled its trigger on game. The model 71 Winchester in .348 begs to go kill a moose. I ended up killing one with my Remington 673 300 saum. The Remington 721 30-06 I had refinished is just a classic old rifle. Still haven’t carried it in the woods. The Smith & Wesson 1500 in .270 was my first deer rifle. I killed a bunch of deer with it. The first and last deer I killed was with it. I’m a sucker for an old tired deer rifle, seems every year I find one or two that need repair, refinish and TLC. I romanticize in my head of taking them hunting. Season comes and they sit idle while I grab my bow.

Ive got a promise on my 1969 Rem 700 BDL LA .30-06, and I've done a lot to soup it up... love this gun now... if only it could claim a harvest lol....
