IMG_2690.jpegIf I go, I think i might take this. Marlin .35
It was my best friends. He was killed 1990 by a drunk. I have hunted this one time. At the 20yr anniversary of his passing, i sighted in. It was still dead on. Old tasco scope with the see through mounts. Old school even in the 80s. He insisted on hunting with it as is. It was given to him by an old man that mentored him. No one hunted in his family. The old man passed of cancer and my buddy inherited it. The only rifle he ever had. When my friend was killed, his mom handed it to me and told me that i should have it.
I think me and that old gun are going together this year.

I am somewhat jealous of those that hunt with beautiful wood and blued firearms. So classic and nostalgic. I have just become so AR and Chassis familiar that legacy rifles feel extremely awkward to me now.
I bought a couple really nice rifles to hunt with along the way just to have somethin purdy to look at while hunting. Thing is if you're really hunting, the weapon is just a tool. There isn't time to just look at your weapon

This year my daughter (8) and I will be running the Ruger American with a Shaw 22 Creedmoor barrel. The ammo is handloaded 57HHT @4015fps. I might put the 6.5 Creedmoor barrel back on later in the year but we’ll see.
I hope y'all have a great time

I’ve had the .270 and 7mm Mag for several years, but both are unfired and have the original boxes. Recently found one in 7mm-08 that was ever-so-slightly used so I’m going to kill something with it this year! Hoping it’s a bear, but will settle for a whitetail if a bear doesn’t present itself!

Love these old, factory Rem 700’s in bottomland!

Why would you not load the 80-90 grain pills for this use case? Having run 58 grains in a .243 at those velocities...it was not an effective deer round, at all.

Copper bullets need speed and the 57hht should work fine. The 58gr in a 243 were probably a vmax and those lack penetration. Based off the 3 deer I shot last year with a 22arc, the 57gr should work fine.
