Nice! Is that a early 17 or a pre 17 ?

It's a post Berkhart, pre war i frame , that identifies as a early 22/32 kit gun.

I have yet to buy the all things Smith and Wesson Holy Bible to confirm.

It appears the rollmarking on the barrel is a bit thin on the left side so I'm thinking it could have had a touch up at some point, but not a complete touch up.
But that is keeping me from reaching out to the newest Roy Jinks historian.
But all the numbers match so it's not been rebarrelled. And the bore is very nice.
There's also a patent date stamped on the bottom of 1 grip panel.

Today was an awesome day and I've been itching for a .357 k-frame for years, but couldn't pay for one. Now today is my lucky day and I scored on a nice 66-5 made from probably around 1998-2001. It's DAO (no SA notch) and pretty clean. It has night sights as old as the gun which is a little different. I just need to take it out to the range. Also it's cool to find another 2.5" model 66. New enough for MIM hammer and trigger with frame mounted firing pin, but old enough to not have the dreaded Hillary hole.

Another classic Colt Python from 1980's added to the family. With the cost of gas it is getting expensive driving to my buddy's vault where my stuff is stored, when I want to play with some of my toys but it is awful nice of him to put up with me!
