Clones/Lesser known imports

I wouldn't mind getting my hands on an FEG Hi-Power clone. Not the SW trigger system one- the hi-power one
Do it! And when you get one the first thing you should do is to remove the mag safety. That makes the mags drop free when you hit the button and really helps the trigger pull. Then get all your custom upgrade parts from Cylinder and Slide. They're the source for Hi Power goodies.

The whole point of a clone is that it costs less than original but is equal or better. Strike One ain't a clone. Now, if you said Diamondback DP9....I'd understand.

Cheaper cost is not the defining characteristic of a "clone". The Swiss company of Sphinx makes clones of more than one CZ model and the Sphinx pistols cost quite a bit more.

Colt pioneered the commercial model 1911, but there are plenty of companies making clones that cost way more than a Colt. Same thing for Colt and the AR15 platform.

Freedom Arms revolvers can be said to be a clone of either the Colt SAA or the Ruger Blackhawk, or both, bought once again they cost more.

While it wasn't the original polymer-framed handgun, nor the first striker-fired, the Glock is considered my most to be the first commercially successful polymer-framed, striker-fired handgun. As such, many consider any newer handguns with those same 2 characteristics to be a clone of a Glock.

Only Glock fanboys call other polymer handguns clones.

I really have enjoyed this 9MM Witness. Built like a tank and fits my hand like a glove.

Wouldn't know, ain't a Glock fan boy. I'm glad we got someone to set us straight on definitions and criteria around here, though.

Was I at least "correct" on the Sphinx/CZ and Colt/ dang near everyone connections?

Sphinx is a high end clone of the CZ. As a matter of fact, the earlier guns were hand made and hand assembled, and no other gun comes close to the precision and build quality of those.

That is correct. At one time, not sure if it is still true, Sphinx was the only gun company in the world that made every single part and piece of their handguns. This included the grips, sights, screws, pins, springs, etc.
