CMP Garand Inventory very low

The CMP Sales Update.

Read that this morning...I guess they're trying to reassure their customer base.

They did one and charged admission during their D-Day games. The only downside was they had to ship them to the buyer rather than take them with them.
Yeabut you had to pay $200 to get in. No thanks.

The law (constitutional correct or not) still requires handguns sold to out of state purchasers be mailed to a FFL in the purchaser state of residence.

I’d buy another one if I could pick it out

So for the $200, you got 1) chance to handpick among 400 1911 surplus pistols better than any gun show I have ever been to, 2) CMP armorers were there to ask questions, 3) two USGI magazines (normally ship with one commercial mag), 4) box of ammo and CMP swag, 5) Tour of the CMP facility (we got a chance to see a Singer 1911, a $350k pistol), 6) Skip the 1911 order que which I think is about 4 to 5 months. I got mine in 7 business days.

I would absolutely do it again and happily pay the $200.

As an aside, the order form is now online and that makes it much easier to order.

No criticism of you intended in my previous posts. I appreciate your comments and insights in this thread.

I got one in the first round. Took 2 years from submission of paperwork to picking up the gun

I went in the Talledega store 2 summers ago for the first time and walked out with a 1903A3 which I got to pick out of a very good inventory. They had a good inventory of garands as well.

Inventory of rifles has shrunk and pistols had increased. They should sell the pistols same as the rifles with the exception that the pistols ship to a FFL in the purchaser’s state of residence in accordance with the law. I didn’t have pt pay $200 to browse the rifles

CMP is mostly out of garands now. That is why they have introduced new manufactured garands and reclaimed drill rifles.

CMP has put in a proposal to get M14 and convert to semi-auto. They expect the USGI 1911 transfers to continue under this admin. CMP is actively trying to get further garands back from overseas but who knows how successful they will be in the near term. Bottom line is that their rifle inventory may improve but not in the short term.

Don`t see M14 rifles ever happening- whenever this comes up it goes back to the BATF "once a machine gun always a machine gun"
