It's in pieces right now. Stock had 60 years of dirt and grease. Using Murphy's Oil Soap and BLO.

There is still some of the original cosmoline. Anyone have any suggestions on a solvent that will cut the cosmoline?

I use denatured alcohol but Mineral Spirits is good

I use hot soapy water then some mineral spirits. That's it.

If you need to get any embedded oils and crud that a regular cleaning won't get, wrap the stock in clean paper towels and then put it in a black trash bag and put in on the dash of your car/truck so the sun is hitting it constantly. Do that for a day or two and it should draw out some of the soaked in crud.
