I got a ticket at 12:01 this morning for the first in-person event in Anniston on June 6th. It sold out pretty quickly so there appears to be a lot of interest. CMP has hinted that the quality of the pistols offered will be very good. CMP has said that they will provide ticket holders the exact list of special or auction grade guns with pricing prior to the event.

sure seems like a lot of effort for a used, mediocre gun....guess I'm not the sentimental kind....
Some people will buy anything
The reality is that the 1911 has been in production, virtually unchanged, for over 110 years. It shows no sign of losing popularity. Currently, the CMP has wait lists for pistols for several months. CMP, at current prices, will sell every pistol they receive from the Army until that inventory is exhausted.
If people have enough money to burn that they want to spend 1200 bucks for a rattle-y old 1911 assembled from various parts decades ago, that's up to them.
I have no interest in something like that.

When the M2 heavy MG's go on sale after President Vance signs an executive order declaring that all military machine guns were deemed "registered under the NFA" from the moment they were built by a defense contractor or accepted into the DOD records as government inventory....
THEN I will think about paying thousands of dollars and getting on a waiting list to buy an old well-worn government surplus gun.
