CMP to hold in person 1911 sales.

First one in a lifetime, then 2 and now 4. Sounds like they may be like Garands soon with an annual limit. Fingers crossed.

Wonder if Berettas will ever be sold. Not sure I'd buy one if they were.

Don't see why they wouldn't. Don't see many crimes with surplus 1911s or Garands.

New generation isn't flocking to buy these with few exceptions (my son).
They wants a plastic Gluck. I guess the 1911 is outdated. But these old guns will still be around when the plastic gun is long gone

You know, I'd like to see the CMP set up more to PROMOTE gun ownership, and skilled marksmanship, than to sell guns for a big profit to older or retirement-aged gun collectors who are nearing the end of what has been a lifetime of serious involvement in the shooting sports.
Perhaps they should be LOANING these 1911's to gun stores and shooting ranges (with secure on-site storage) to be used ONLY for training classes. Maybe with discount prices, since the business or club would not be laying out any money to acquire the guns.
Or, since the 1911's are transferable to the public and highly-valued by Boomers who are sitting on loads of money from retirement funds and with their homes fully paid-off, SELL THE PISTOLS like they are currently doing but then use the profits

to make M-16's available for training newbies in the art of rifle marksmanship! Not giving or selling M16s to the public, but sending them out on long-term loans or as the corpus (body, stuff) of a Trust between the government and some private individuals (shooting instructors, coaches) or business entities (gun stores with shooting ranges, gun clubs with outdoor ranges and secure storage).

What America needs more than a small number of gun nuts (like me) building their collections or enriching themselves by buying government guns and flipping them in private-party sales

is to get more people to become first-time gun owners, and that can be jumpstarted by giving them (or selling them at a discount price) firearms training with a free loaner gun courtesy of the CMP.

Sorta sounds like entry-grade socialism.
