Collectible S&W Revolvers produced from 1957 to Present

From the gun vault of under appreciated S&W revolvers, comes the M581/M681. The no frills, stripped down, cousin to the M586/686. Both the M581/N681 and the M586/M868 were designed and built to withstand heavy use of .357 rounds. Production for both the M581/M681 and the M586 began in 1980. But while the M586/M686 were in production until 1999, the M581/M681 only lasted until 1988.
The M581 is a fixed sight revolver, came in blued or nickel, the M681 is stainless, no barrel length options, only a 4" model, no target trigger, no target hammer and no option for grips, service magna grips only. Most everyone has heard of the M586, but few know about the M581, the less loved cousin. As I have mentioned before the M581/M681 catches my eye because of my appreciation of fixed sight revolvers.
