Colt h-bar match ar15 a2 still has packing grease on it , I understand stand it was built for open site tack driving, but I want the put optics on it so I've been thinking about trying to find a colt a3 stripped upper and replacing it, also putting a nice floating rail on it. Thoughts?

I think it's a great idea !

You can always put it back later :0)

Welcome to the trader !

The only thing that rifle will be exceptional at is retaining value in original configuration. Once you change it, it becomes pretty valueless.

I would sell it and buy or build something modern without that horrible hbar barrel, oversized trigger, hammer, and pivot pins, and butchered bolt carrier.
